Electric decanters allow periodic or continuous discharge of the clarified surface layer of sewage from sludge lagoons or reactor chambers of small and medium-sized sewage treatment plants operating in a sequential or continuous system. This process is accomplished by raising and lowering the decanter overflow with the drain hose. This allows you to receive clean liquid, uncontaminated with activated sludge. The devices are mounted on floats, enabling operation with any fluctuations in the sewage level. Operation can be controlled manually or automatically using inductive proximity sensors.
The DE type electric decanter consists of a drain trough with a lifting mechanism and floats with an articulated or roller position stabilization system. The trough is raised and lowered by an electromechanical actuator (screw mechanism driven by a three-phase electric motor). Raising and lowering the trough is achieved by changing the direction of motor rotation.
The movement can be controlled automatically using inductive limit switches of the lower and upper position. In cases of failure of the automation system, manual operation is possible by changing the direction of engine rotation with a manual switch. The connection stub is used to connect a flexible drain pipe. Efficiency is adjusted mainly by changing the trigger duration.
The special design of the drain channel forces a horizontal inflow of the surface layer of sewage, which favors the collection of only clarified sewage from the upper layers. The deflector is designed to prevent the outflow of pollutants floating on the sewage surface.
DE type electric decanters can be equipped with 2 stabilization systems:
Articulated stabilizer – to maintain the horizontal position of the decanter discharge trough, it should be equipped with a stabilization system. Due to the simplicity of installation, reliability of operation in winter conditions and very high flexibility in selecting the length of elements, it is a very good and universal solution. When using the articulated stabilizer, the decanter is not limited to working directly at the installation site.
Roller stabilizer – in cases where there are large fluctuations in the sewage level or the size of the tank is limited, roller guides can be used to stabilize the decanter. The rollers are mounted using the same holes in the angle brackets of the float connectors as in the case of mounting the joints.
Actual efficiency should be determined for specific operating conditions and depends primarily on:
– size and settings of the decanter,
– diameter, length and type of drain pipe,
– difference in sewage inlet (intake) and outlet levels,
– local losses in the pipeline (including losses at elbows – for a rigid drain pipe).
